Participation in sports keep teens out of trouble

There are innumerable ways of youth getting into trouble in today’s world. Youth are exposed to the media, the internet, and easily available drugs and addictive substances. While hormonal problems leading to mood swings in young people can be corrected using medication, social troubles are not easy to solve. The old saying that prevention is better than cure applies to troubled youth and parents should swing into action the moment signs of trouble appear to nip the problem in the bud.

Encouraging sporting activity in which the adolescent shows a talent or general interest is one way of keeping him or her away from trouble. Excelling in the sporting activity will keep the adolescent out of trouble and help them to make an effort to beat the competition. Team sports help the adolescent to have a healthy interaction with peers in a positive way. Encouraging baseball in inner city schools helped to keep youth out of troubled and gave them a positive outlook in some cities. Parents should however steer clear of pressuring the child to overwork at the sport or take up a sport that does not interest the adolescent because this may have an adverse effect on the child.

Parents have found that encouraging religion and spiritual activity in children is another way of keeping children out of trouble. Encouraging children to join volunteer church activities, Sunday school or charity programs will keep  adolescents out of trouble. It will also help interaction with other children who belong to the same congregation who will be a positive influence on the child. Children will be subject to supervision of other religious adults who will be able to give proper spiritual direction to the child.

Nurturing talent is another way by which parents can keep adolescents out of trouble. Encouraging musical talent or a talent in art, dancing or developing a hobby is a method of encouraging adolescents to find a positive direction in life and keep them out of trouble. Talent development increases self esteem and gives a meaning and purpose to the life of the teenager. However, parents must allow the teenager to achieve goals at a steady pace. Forcing too much achievement may again have a negative effect on the child.

Positive parenting will keep adolescents out of trouble. Parents should lead regulated lifestyles and set examples for adolescents to follow. They should discipline the adolescent without being dictatorial. Parents should be friends and mentors of their adolescents and make every effort to spend quality time with them. They should monitor the adolescent closely and seek medical and psychological help if the need arises.

Encouraging volunteering is a method of keeping adolescents out of trouble. Local governments and social service organizations have community service programs which parents could sign up for with their adolescents to encourage meaningful activity in their spare time. Reading to the elderly or the visually challenged is one activity that many adolescents find rewarding.

To prevent adolescents from becoming troubled adolescents, parents should take

preventive action and make sure that the young boy or girl becomes a well adjusted adolescent and adult.

Summary: I believe sports are a wonderful way to keep out of trouble and living a healthy life style in which they can meet positive mentors and life long friends. Many believe sports are just a way for athletic people to show off to the unathletic kids but in reality most athletes are athletes to help fill a void for a place in their life they are not happy with. Athletics can help keep young kids as well as young adults stay out of trouble by presenting a positive alternative to their bad habits and introducing them to new role models. Sports tend to be a major gateway for young aspiring kids to remove themselves from the slums and the gangs because they believe they can make it big and many times they can because they have a ton of mental toughness!!

Why a Great Books Education is the Most Practical! by David Crabtree

David tell why he beleives a great books education is the way to go because it is a broader education that helps prepare students better for the future. one reason is because job demand is changing and many job are becoming automated. In some ways i completely agree with David’s beliefs on how and why it could work but on the other hand i already feel as if I’m wasteing my money on some of the required classes we are required to take here at eastern, such a CPLA and African American studies i find those classes to be completely useless to me and feel I have many things I could be doing in my life that are more constructive and I put forth very little effort ( just enough to get by) as a result learn very little. I feel it is only to your advantage if you want to be very broad personally i’d rather master one subject and work out others after i have one down. I don’t know if i could become effective at multiple trades all at one time. Although it may be very effective for many i dont feel as if it would work for me.

I love you man

Peter is the main character and is sterotyped as a soft whimpy guy that doesn’t have any guy friends. He doesn’t interact well with guys because he’s a softer more femine guy that gets along with women really well because he acts like them and shares their same beliefs and qualities. They make him out to be a momma’s boy and his little brother is his dad’s best friend. He spends one night haning out with the guys and ends up puking on the macho guy and kicked out of the house. overall the make him out to be a very soft caring guy that only relates with women.

The Ultimate Fighter

The ultimate fighter shows both the men and women sterotypes in society today. The men have to be strong and macho, they can’t show a fear or a weakness. They are trying to pound each others brains in for a contract in the UFC (ultimate fighting championships). 16 guys trying to prove that they are the alpha male and that nothing can get in their ways to become the best. That they are mighty and powerful. The woman on the other hand play absolutely no role in this show other then standing in the middle of the ring holding a round sign in a bathing suit just flaunting their bare bodies. Its a terrible sterotype on some woman with beauty that all they can be good for is looks. I really like the show and have never thought about these sterotypes before but now that i do i realize how messed up society is and how we have to sterotype everything to make it exciting and interesting.

Rodney Atkins

Rodney Atkins was born in Tennessee, and put up for adoption not long after his birth. As an infant at the Holston Methodist Home for Children in Greeneville, Tennessee, he was so sick that two couples who had taken him home returned him a few days later. [2] A third couple, Margaret and Allan Atkins [3] from Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, adopted him as well and, even though his ailments worsened, refused to give him up. His adoptive mother had been raised in a coal mining family near a tannery camp, and his dad survived an upbringing marked by poverty and episodes of abuse.

During high school, Atkins played guitar in his spare time at events and festivals. He went to college at Tennessee Techin Cookeville, Tennessee, where he worked various jobs in order to pay for his education. He also went into Nashville to play gigs and write songs. [4]

This is a tremendous story, a kid of was struggling for his life with parents giving him away and others adopting and returning him because of his illness. It goes to show that everyone does have a chance no matter the situation. He went from foster parents giving him back to the top of the music world. He writes wonderful meaningful songs that go to the top of the charts and stay at the the top. I’m glad i came across this info on the Internet because it gives a whole new meaning to a lot of the songs that he writes. The more i think about it the more it impresses me. It blows me away that a man that was given away by his birth parents can write such loving and compassionate songs about family and the will to never give up its truly inspiring.

Detroit draft bust Charles Rogers owes Lions $6.1 million

With two weeks and a day until the 2010 NFL draft, it’s a very good time for every team to be reminded just how badly a first-round bust can set a team back. If you can add yet another reason to cap on the utterly preposterous career of former Detroit Lions “general manager” Matt Millen, all the better. With the recent news that a district court has ruled that ex-Detroit receiver Charles Rogers(notes) must repay $6.1 million of the $9.1 million signing bonus he received after the Lions took him with the second pick in the 2003 draft, we are yet again brought into the world of measurables with nothing behind them.

Rogers broke his collarbone twice in his first two seasons, was suspended four games in 2005 for a third violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, and that suspension triggered acrimony from within the Lions organization - the team said that the violation went against his contract, and they tried to recover money that Rogers would be obligated to return. It later came out that Rogers failed multiple drug tests in college, which was a.) the reason for a contract provision in the first place; and b.) a huge red flag. Generally speaking, you don’t bet on the idea that habitual drug offenders will clean up their acts when they come into millions of dollars and loads of free time.

Rogers barely played again after his suspension and was released by the team in September of 2006. Several NFL teams (and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League) reportedly took a pass, which left Rogers with even more free time. Bad idea. He became a frequent user of marijuana and Vicodin, and his life spiraled further downhill. After multiple probation violations, the last straw came in January of 2010, when he violated a sobriety court order by passing out after drinking too much in a Mexican restaurant. That order came from a drunk driving charge last September. You get the idea.

It’s yet another chapter in a very sad story. Rogers has nobody to blame but himself, but one wonders how he’s going to deal with the loss of money you’d probably bet he doesn’t have anymore. Perhaps every time Millen goes on television from now on, masquerading as a savvy personnel guy, he should be fined $10,000, and the money put into a matching fund to repay the franchise. Because if there’s one thing for sure, it’s that Millen’s just as much at fault for ignoring what was right in front of his face, and bringing bust after bust onto the team.

This article doesn’t show much ethos on the writers behalf but does a good job describing rogers character. The logos is clear as day rogers is required to pay back more the half of his signing bonus for very logical reasons such as drug use violating his contract. The writer’s pathos show no sympathy to a guy who just lost over 6 millon dollars and blew the opprotunities at everymans dream. He is very to the point and non forgiving.

Thesis

Usually I have trouble actually getting helpful information out of English books but I feel like I now know not to leave my thesis too broad. I want to narrow it down to make a stronger point. I also learn not to use Cliches. “cliches are overused, worn-out expressions”. The book was short and sweet just the way I like. Wasn’t enough boring reading to get me sidetrack day dreaming.

Watching You Song lyrics

Watching You lyrics
Songwriters: Dean, Steven; White, Brian; Atkins, Rodney;

Drivin? through town just my boy and me
With a ‘Happy Meal’ in his booster seat
Knowin? that he couldn?t have the toy ?til his nuggets were gone

A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit in my brakes and mumbled under my breath
His fries went a flyin? and his orange drink covered his lap

Well, then my 4 year old said a 4 letter word
It started with ‘S’ and I was concerned
So I said, ?Son, now where?d you learn to talk like that??

He said, ?I?ve been watching you, dad ain?t that cool?
I?m your buckaroo, I want to be like you
And eat all my food, and grow as tall as you are?

"We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah, we?re just alike, hey, ain?t we dad
I want to do everything you do
So I?ve been watching you”

We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
Said, ?Lord, please help me help my stupid self?

Just this side of bedtime later that night
Turnin? on my son?s Scooby-doo night light
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees

He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
Spoke to God like he was talkin? to a friend
And I said, ?Son, now where?d you learn to pray like that??

He said, ?I?ve been watching you, dad ain?t that cool?
I?m your buckaroo, I want to be like you
And eat all my food, and grow as tall as you are”

"We like fixin? things and holding moma?s hand
Yeah, we?re just alike, hey, ain?t we dad?
I want to do everything you do
So I?ve been watching you”

With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug
Said, ?My little bear is growin? up?
And he said, ?But when I?m big
I?ll still know what to do?

€“‘Cause I?ve been watching you, dad ain?t that cool?
I?m your buckaroo, I want to be like you
And eat all my food, and grow as tall as you are”

"By then I?ll be strong as superman
We?ll be just alike, hey, won?t we dad?
When I can do everything you do
'Cause I?ve been watching you”

Hey, hey, oh, oh

I think this is a great song, telling about how young boys look up to their fathers, and how your son will learn your bad traits as well as your good ones!
